Inspired by William Roscoe’s poems in the book The Butterfly Ball & the Grasshopper’s Feast, I collaborated with the Year 5 and 6 students from St. John’s RC Primary School, Chorlton, to produce art-works that shall be exhibited at the Holden Gallery café, Manchester School of Art (26th – 17th July 2014). The students have used a variety of art materials and have been taught several different techniques. Furthermore, they have been introduced to the hidden Entomology and Botany collections at the Manchester Museum, and have learnt about the different museological methods that are used to store these. Inspired by the Thomas Horsfall exhibition currently at the Manchester Art Gallery, our installation will be displayed to look like a miniature museum, with the further purpose to inspire and educate visiting children and families.
