As part of the Collaborative Artist Residency, a group of 7 Year 8 and 9 pupils attended a day trip to the Manchester Museum. In the morning we were treated to a tour and talk of the Herbarium by Head of Botany Rachel Webster, where the pupils asked questions, engaged in observational drawing, and even explored the Tower! In the afternoon the pupils saw the Object Lessons exhibition, and created their own specimens in an authentic museum box. A very busy and exciting day!
Some written feedback by the pupils:
“I enjoyed the Herbarium room because not many people get to see it so I felt special”
“I enjoyed going through the gallery which had the fake objects because it had anatomies of different creatures like a squid and a turkey.”
“I enjoyed the tower and drawing in the Herbarium because I enjoy drawing and the tower was fun and something new.”
“Today I have enjoyed making the 3D boxes because I love doing crafts.”
“My favourite part was illustrating any chosen object in the Herbarium, because I love drawing.”
